Click Free Backup

USB harddrives are nothing new - what usually defines them, backup speed and backup harddrive capacity, well now there is a new feature setting this range of USB hard drives. Plug in the drive and let it backup the computer it is connected to. The Clickfree USB hard drives automatically scan the computer harddrive and backs up usefull files and ignores most of the hard drive clutter (temp files etc).
Average spec is 320GB backup drive for around £90. A little bit more than the average drive (£60 for this capacity) but this is an ideal backup drive for the casual user or those with little technical or little time to manage complicated backup software.

NBox - What is the nbox?

A little while ago I posted a review of the WD TV Live media box for viewing downloaded and streaming content on the TV.
The WD box is fantastic, but weighing in at around £100 it may seem a little pricy for what it is.
So what if you want to view downloaded content on your telly at a fraction of the cost?
I give you the NBOX - a fantastic multimedia player for music, video and pictures on any TV.

Typically the nbox is alot cheaper than the WD TV Live box usually weighing in at around £15 - £25 on ebay including your shipping. It is small also - about the size of 2 audio cassette tapes (remember those)

    So What is it?
the NBox is a small box that needs connecting to mains power and the TV via scart or HDMI and although there is no internal memory it will take SD memory cards or USB memory sticks, as these are very cheap now and capacity wise they can easily pack in 4-5 hours of DVD quality video. HD video is also supported - as long as you have the source files and a big enough memory.
Supported video files include MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX, Xvid, AVI, MPG, MPEG, DAT RMVB and VOB
Suported Audio Files include MP3, WMA, WAV and RM
Supported Image / Photo Files include JPEG, BMP and GIF so is actually a great device for performing slide shows of those holiday snaps.

The package includes a remote control, AV cable and power cable best check the full description on ebay (see latest available below) for component details as they may vary.

      Western Digital WD TV Live

Tiny Media Centre for Use With TV - Internet capable

Tiny Media Centre for Use With TV - Internet capable

The WD TV Live is a discrete box that you plug in to your tv that allows you to view video and photo media on your TV away from the computer. Just plug in a USB media source (USB hard drive or USB Memory Stick) and watch on your TV using the compact remote control included in the box.

The LIVE part of this media player separates it from the old version of the WD TV as it can now accept streaming video content through a network or over an Internet connection. Capability to work with Youtube and other online video services is included, also BBC iPlayer compatibility should be available in the future - requiring a firmware update from the manufacturers website.

With the YouTube and should iPlayer compatibility come sooner rather than later this is a must to compliment a freeview enabled TV in order to give a rich compact media experience, with a little popping to the PC to rip DVDs and full quality blu ray movies into a convenient and accessible media library

        Self Stirring Mug

Self Stirring Mug - for lazy people, what no straw, they actually have to lift it?

Self Stirring Mug - for lazy people, what no straw, they actually have to lift it?

What a wonderful piece of time saving tech. Who hasn't made themselves a cup of tea, added their 4 sugars and so exausted by that effort can then not be able to get a tea spoon (not the heaviest of tools) and rotate it in a mug that must be all of 10cm across.

Ok so it is good for coffee lovers aswell as tea, perhaps even horlicks. Cannot say if it works with Bovril or not as I am not that way inclined. Haven't tested it with cup a soups either, but if this mug cannot stir it what really is the point.

As a novelty this is great, I can see my dad getting one for a Christmas present. Past that - cannot see it catching on. Now kettle has just boiled, need my hobnob bungee...

Specifications, er it is a mug, it has a battery powered stirring action and a funky yellow button on the handle.

eBooks have been around for the past 20 years, what makes the new ebook readers stand up and be counted is the fack they use eInk - not LCD screens. This means that there is no illumination from the screen and the ebook reader is as easy on the eye as a normal ebook

To give it it's full title the ebook reader is called a Sony PRS600S eBook Reader Touch Edition

Simplicity is Key, with just 5 buttons on the front of the reader.

The touch screen is intuitive and responsive, something that could be a big drawback on any touchscreen device.

The ebook reader is compatable with a number of formats, including the commonly used epub and pdf, it is not locked to a single format, so you can buy books from places like Waterstones.
BBeB® Book, TXT, RTF, Adobe® PDF and Microsoft Word files are all supported (conversion of Word documents to the Reader requires Microsoft Word installed on your PC).

The fact that TXT files are supported means that you can benefit from thousands of free classic titles from Project Guteberg.

The screen size is a good 6 inch and the resolution is perfect for quick response text.

Battery life is a good 7500 page turns, allowing you to read a good 10 full length novels on one charge.

The reader's inbuilt memory allows you to carry over 300 books with you at any time. There is a memory stick slot for an optional Memory Stick PRO Duo or SD media card - click here for the best deals on removable media
